The One-Size-Fits-All Controversy
Creating a unified version of Spanish for all countries and regions with a “one-size-fits-all” approach presents several challenges. Spanish is a widely spoken language with significant variations across different regions and countries. Each region has developed its own distinct vocabulary, idioms, and expressions, reflecting its unique cultural heritage and historical influences. Any attempt to create a “one-size-fits-all” Spanish strategy would need to strike a delicate balance between standardization and preserving regional diversity, local policy adherence and naturalness, while fostering a sense of inclusivity and shared linguistic heritage.
I will show the audience how establishing a governing body, conducting extensive research on variants and their grammatical and lexical differences, incorporating regional elements where appropriate and by means of automation, and creating guidelines on how to make the content equally global and local, guarantees a successful variant-agnostic localization strategy for Spanish.
