The LMI got started at our 2003 Localization Management Roundtable at which delegates set
to work to establish standard industry metrics to guide and measure globalization and
localization business decisions. Metrics existed at many companies, but there were neither
definitions of common comparables nor industry-wide data available.
A work group was established that included companies like . They met on
a regular basis for about nine months selecting relevant metrics and discussing definitions.
Agreeing to specific definitions was a crucial first step, which will allow participating
companies not only to track change within their own organization, but will make it possible
to compare values with industry averages on a year-to-year basis.
The LMI was divided into two phases: and :
The Business Metrics survey phase has now been launched and is available for eight weeks for
data input.
The Productivity Metrics phase is currently in development and open for contribution by
interested client-side volunteers.
We invite you to participate in this industry effort to create meaningful business indicators
and a common data pool to act as a resource for localization and globalization decision-making.
